Evidence Synthesis Center Amsterdam (ESCA)
Evidence makes it possible
We enable researchers and healthcare professionals setting up and conduct evidence syntheses through training, tailored resources, expert consultation, and services. We produce systematic reviews to help making informed decisions in health and medical research
Based in the Department of Epidemiology and Data Science at Amsterdam UMC, we collaborate with clinicians and other researchers across disciplines, and institutions

Evidence for Planet
We believe evidence is essential not only for better health, but also for a more sustainable future.
Whether through evaluating sustainable interventions, identifying knowledge gaps, or promoting environmentally responsible research practices, ESCA brings together expertise, collaboration, and integrity to build the evidence base our planet needs.
We are committed to advancing evidence that promotes sustainability in healthcare, policy, and research. Within ESCA, we also turn the lens inward—examining how evidence is produced, communicated, and applied, to make research practices more transparent, efficient, and environmentally conscious.
Our experts at ESCA actively contribute to this mission within Amsterdam UMC and in partnership with other research groups across the Netherlands. A key principle we uphold is reducing research waste: by mapping what is already known, we help avoid unnecessary duplication, guide more efficient study designs, and ensure that research efforts are focused where they are most needed.
The outputs of our ongoing and completed projects will be shared here soon.
